Traffic Stops Yields Arrest for Drug Trafficking, Possession

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a man and woman Sunday for possession of various drugs and Trafficking in Cocaine following a traffic stop in Sarasota.

Just after 8:00 p.m., patrol deputies near Mango Avenue and 25th Street observed a vehicle with a window tint violation and initiated a traffic stop. The black Nissan Altima fled for nearly a mile before stopping in the 2200 block of Sophie Springer Lane. Deputies identified the driver as Trevaris Carter, DOB 07/02/86, the passenger as Francesca Gunter, DOB 02/07/90, and noticed their child was also in the vehicle. While speaking with Gunter, deputies discovered she was attempting to conceal a large amount of marijuana and more than 22 grams of cocaine inside a child’s blanket. Deputies conducted a search of Carter’s vehicle which revealed more cocaine and hydrocodone. In total, deputies recovered more than 51 grams of marijuana and more than 30 grams of cocaine.

Carter and Gunter were arrested and taken to the Sarasota County Jail. Carter is charged with one count each of Trafficking in Cocaine, Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription, Possession of Marijuana over 20 Grams, Fleeing to Elude, and Knowingly Driving While License is Suspended. He is being held without bond. Gunter is charged with Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Sell and Possession of Marijuana over 20 Grams and is held on $9,000 bond.
