Sarasota Man Arrested for Firing Shotgun at Neighbor

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 57-year-old Sarasota man after he fired several shotgun rounds at a neighbor in his apartment complex.

Deputies first responded to 4081 Maceachen Blvd. early Sunday morning just after 3:00 a.m. when the victim dialed 9-1-1 to report the suspect fired four rounds at him while he was riding his bicycle in the neighborhood. The victim directed deputies to Charles Herr, DOB 04/18/61, the resident of Unit #69. No one was injured however, responding detectives recovered the four shotgun rounds as well as a shattered residential sliding glass door with projectiles found inside the home and on the patio. Bullet holes were also discovered from both a shot gun and a second, unknown firearm. A search warrant was executed on Herr’s apartment where detectives recovered several firearms and ammunition. Investigation confirmed the victim and Herr do not know one another.

Herr was taken into custody and charged with Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling and four counts of Aggravated Assault with a Weapon. His only prior arrest in Sarasota County is for DUI and Violation of Driver’s License Restrictions in 2004. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
