The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office will host the 33rd Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. The event is held each year during National Police Week, which is May 13-19, 2018.

The memorial service will be held at 9:00 a.m., outside the sheriff’s office headquarters, 6010 Cattleridge Blvd., Sarasota. Front desk services will be limited from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. During that time, citizens are asked to consider calling 941.861.5800 or visiting the sheriff’s office headquarters after the ceremony is concluded.

In addition to the sheriff’s office, participating agencies include the Sarasota, Venice, North Port, and Longboat Key Police Departments, Florida Highway Patrol, Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners, State Attorney’s Office, Sarasota County Fire Department, Sarasota Memorial Hospital Public Safety, USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus Police, Sarasota Bradenton Airport Authority, and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The service recognizes men and women who serve and protect this community, and honors the following Florida law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2017:

Deputy First Class Norman C. Lewis, Orange County Sheriff's Office; Lieutenant Debra Lucinda Clayton, Orlando Police Department; Special Agent Rickey O'Donald, Federal Bureau of Investigation; Officer Joshua Sanchez Montaad, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services – Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement; Correctional Officer Joe William Heddy, Jr., Escambia County Department of Corrections; Master Sergeant William Trampas Bishop, Florida Highway Patrol; Police Officer Matthew Scott Baxter, Kissimmee Police Department; Sergeant Richard Samuel Howard, III, Kissimmee Police Department; Sergeant Joseph Ossman, Florida Department of Corrections; Deputy Sheriff Julie Ann England-Bridges, Hardee County Sheriff's Office; K9 Diesel, Sebastian Police Department; and K9 Freckles, Florida Department of Corrections.
