The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a northwest Florida man on Wednesday only minutes after he robbed a Sarasota bank.

Deputies responded to the Florida Central Credit Union located at 3451 Cattlemen Road, on Wednesday just after 1:45 p.m., for an alarm call. According to bank employees, the suspect presented a note and demanded cash. The teller complied and gave the suspect money from the cash drawer including a dye pack. The suspect then fled northbound to a nearby neighborhood in the 2800 block of Indianwood Way. Patrol and K-9 deputies were quickly alerted to his location where they took Avery Williams, DOB 08/31/80, into custody without incident. During an interview with detectives, Williams was fully cooperative and admitted to committing the robbery along with half a dozen others throughout Alabama, Georgia and surrounding areas in Florida.

Williams lives in Quincy, Florida, and has served time in prison for Robbery and Possession of Cocaine. Detectives working in partnership with the FBI, are continuing their investigation to identify other locations where Williams has committed robberies. Today, he is being held at the Sarasota County Jail on a single count of Robbery with a $250,000 bond.
