Wells Fargo Bank Robber Arrested

NEWS RELEASE #: 16-116

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office charged a Bradenton man in connection with an Armed Robbery that occurred Wednesday afternoon at a Wells Fargo in Sarasota.

Deputies responded to 5701 Bee Ridge Road at approximately 2:33 p.m., after the suspect entered the bank, indicated he had a weapon and stole an unknown amount of cash. Detectives released surveillance photos of the suspect and his vehicle to the media. A citizen soon contacted investigators and identified Ray Frierson, DOB 05/31/68, of Bradenton, as the man in the photos. Through a photo lineup, bank tellers also confirmed Frierson as the suspect. Detectives spoke with Frierson's employer who advised the vehicle used during the robbery belonged to the business and had been stolen by Frierson the same day.

Frierson was taken into custody on Thursday by the Bradenton Police Department, who also charged him in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at a Chase Bank on Manatee Avenue on Sunday. Frierson is currently being held at the Manatee County Jail on $500,000 bond on two charges of Armed Robbery. The investigation continues.
