Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman is proud to announce the promotion of two sheriff’s office members in a Thursday ceremony.
Newly promoted Sergeant Josh Gnesin was hired by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) in 2009, where he was assigned to the Patrol Bureau. Later, Gnesin joined the K-9 Unit working with his partners, Titan and then Odin. During this time, he also served as a Tactical Flight Officer in the Aviation Unit. He eventually returned to patrol and was selected as a Field Training Deputy, training and mentoring newly hired deputies.
Prior to his employment at SCSO, Sergeant Gnesin served four years active duty in the United States Air Force, obtained his law enforcement certificate, and began his career at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Gnesin has been nominated for the Law Enforcement Employee of the Month three times and received the agency’s Combat Cross Award in 2014 for his courage and bravery during an incident where a suspect brandished and pointed an AR-15 rifle at him and other deputies.
Communications Operator II, Josie Lopez, was promoted to Emergency Operations Supervisor. Since being hired by the sheriff’s office in 2018, Lopez has worked as a Communications Operator III as well as a Communications Training Officer, training and mentoring new operators. After receiving certification to dispatch law enforcement services, she moved to Communications Operator II status. Earlier this year, Lopez was appointed to the Sheriff’s Office Incident Dispatch Team (IDT), a position requiring specific tactical communications training, skills, and knowledge.
Emergency Operations Supervisor Lopez has an Associate of Arts degree and has attended several training courses during her career, including The APCO Communications Training Officer Course and the Denise Amber Lee Course for meeting victims’ expectations. She is currently working towards certification in fire and EMS dispatch.
“Consistent, exceptional work is a hallmark of these members,” said Sheriff Hoffman. “Our agency takes pride in every upward step of their careers and acknowledges the difference they make at our office and in the community.”
