Aviation Unit

This section provides airborne Law Enforcement support to all city and county governmental agencies within Sarasota County. Support includes, but is not limited to, search and rescue, wildfire suppression, surveillance, patrol flights and aerial photography.

The pilots generally fly in the Sheriff's Office 2004 Bell 407 helicopter, however, at times they will conduct fixed wing operations for long range missions utilizing a leased aircraft.

The helicopter used by the aviation section is equipped with the latest in safety and enforcement technologies including the Forward Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) system that enables the air crew to locate people through thermal technology.
