Volunteering at Animal Services

Animal Services is looking for people who have some love and time to spare, to work with the animals that are in our adoption program.

We utilize volunteers in a variety of capacities, but mainly to socialize and play with the animals to help them become more adaptable to a kennel situation. Animals need and crave human companionship. They do not thrive without it.  If you are over 18 and interested in becoming a volunteer contact our office at (941) 861-9500.

Cats

Like cats? Spend some time with our adoptable cats and kittens. They like to be held, played with and talked to. They like to be brushed and groomed. This interaction with people makes them feel better and look better. It helps socialize them and gives them a better chance to be adopted.

Dogs

Like dogs? Our adoptable dogs need people to walk them and spend time with them. They crave human companionship. They like to play fetch or just sit and let you love them. They also need to be bathed or brushed. Won't you help them put their best paw forward? It will increase their chance for adoption.

Foster Homes

Animal Services has a foster program to further socialize animals for adoption. If, for example, we have a dog that is not adjusting to kenneling, we will try to place him in a foster home until a suitable permanent home can be found.  Sometimes the animals are to young to be kept in the shelter. Or the animal may be injured and in need of a little more attention.

We also foster out puppies and kittens that are too young to be placed in the adoption program. This is a very important part of the foster program. Without foster homes, many of these under-aged animals would die. At this early age, they have very weak immune systems.

Do you have room in your home and your heart? If you are interested in fostering an animal, please give us a call at 861-9500.
