Seniors -vs- Crime

Sheriff
Tom Knight is pleased to introduce this initiative to Sarasota
County. A project of Florida Attorney General, Bill McCollum, the
primary goal of Seniors vs. Crime is to reduce the victimization of
senior citizens who are often targeted for specific crimes based upon
their age. Unfortunately, there are dishonest people who would like
nothing more than to separate seniors from their money.
When reporting issues
through this initiative, no problem is too large or too small. Each case
is handled on an individual basis, and confidentiality is maintained in
accordance with the Florida Public Records Law.
Volunteers, known as "Senior
Sleuths" are active in assisting local law enforcement and act as the
eyes and ears of the Attorney General's Office by reporting on scams and
conducting surveys in the community. Because seniors may be embarrassed
about being victimized, the office uses the philosophy of "seniors
helping seniors". Any case involving a criminal offense is turned
over to Sheriff's detectives for investigation. If a senior feels that they
have been taken advantage of, or has been cheated out of money they
should contact
the Seniors -vs- Crime office today for assistance.
