Sheriff's Underwater Recovery Force (SURF)

The Sheriff's Underwater Recovery Force (SURF) was established to respond and take appropriate action in underwater emergencies, crime scenes, body recoveries, and other water-related incidents.  The team consists of 8 divers and several training positions. The team members are required to meet strict guidelines and attend regular training sessions.

Each diver is fully equipped with high tech dive equipment such as dry suits, agga masks, and underwater communications gear all of which is necessary to protect them from the hazards of contaminated water.

In addition to regular training drills, members of the Sheriff's SURF Team participate in an annual drill with members of the Sarasota Police Department. The purpose of the activity is to enhance their skills and to improve communications between the two dive teams.
